Parc Cientific de Barcelona

Wild Card Projects are highly innovative projects with a potentially trans-formative impact on healthcare, which if successful, can be a major breakthrough in a healthcare/ prevention-related area.

This cross-pillar activity, based on challenges provided by the EIT Health community, will offer a flexible structure to support newly created start-ups.  Incubators’ and accelerators’ engagement throughout the process is essential to Wild Card projects’ success.

Therefore enlisted below items and services will be included in the offer presented to the winning teams and constitute a commitment of engagement in the EIT Health Wild Card projects instrument.

Network

The Barcelona Science Park is a facility of the University of Barcelona, located in the core of the diagonal Knowledge Campus, with easy access to some of the university main schools (there are studies in legal, economic and social sciences as well as experimental and life sciences). Barcelona Science Park conforms a big cluster in biomedicine and it includes some of the major research institutes of the south of Europe in life sciences, such as the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), the Institute of BioEngineering of Catalonia (IBEC) or the National Centre of Genomic Analysis (CNAG), amongst others. The Park also hosts important institutions involved in research at European level, such as BioCat, the Spanish node of eit Health or the Donation and Transplantation Institute; as well as almost 100 different companies from a wide range of fields inside life sciences: medical device, pharma, biotech, cosmetics, nutrition, etc. All these companies could serve as potential partners of the winning teams but also as consultants, as amongst our hosted companies there are some consultants in the fields of: business development, competitive intelligence, intellectual property management, finances, etc.

In addition to the diversity of the cluster, the Barcelona Science Park organizes multiples networking events every month to put in touch all the items of the cluster. These networking events range from cocktails to focused working sessions: investment, scientific communications, grants, etc.
